Fat is probably the most annoying part of the body especially when it makes you fat. The easier it is formed, the harder it is to get rid of it. There are only two possible ways to discard the unnecessary fat from the body are: healthy eating and regular exercising. While it would take weeks and months to achieve the desired shape with this practice, researchers have discovered a way to melt the fat easily and effortlessly. A protein can make you slim without having to do any exercise! This indeed is good news for all the couch potatoes for whom eating salads and walking is no less than a task.

There is a protein 'Sestrin' which is found to have similar effects as exercising in weight and fat reduction. Moreover, this is a naturally-occurring protein and not synthesized! This is present inside the body and not yet available as a supplement. Also, this research was done on mice & flies and not human. But considering the similar body mechanism of humans & mice, scientists believe a human body also has this fat-cutting protein.

A team of researchers from the University of Michigan conducted this study on mice and flies. They found that there is 'sestrin protein' which poses workout effects without moving a muscle. It can melt away the excess fat from the body with no physical exertion. According to Myungjin Kim, Assistant Professor, Department of Molecular & Integrative Physiology, University of Michigan, “We propose that Sestrin can coordinate these biological activities by turning on or off different metabolic pathways. This kind of combined effect is important for producing exercise’s effects."

The team studied two groups of flies- normal flies and flies with no Sestrin. They compared the flying and running abilities of flies of both groups to form a conclusion.

“Flies can usually run around four to six hours at this point and the normal flies’ abilities improved over that period whereas the flies without Sestrin did not improve with exercise,” said another researcher Lee.

Commenting on the vast health benefits of this protein Lee said, “This study highlights that Sestrin alone is sufficient to produce many benefits of physical movement and exercise."
