If you are having trouble getting pregnant, most likely cause is one or the other lifestyle related health issues. There are some other factors too but if you go through the causes that are listed below, you will find that lifestyle related medical conditions.

 

Smoking


Men and women smokers are more likely to become infertile than non-smokers. Smoking causes depletion of eggs and damage to sperms. Not only infertility, the smoking mother if conceives can cause a lot of health complications to her baby. Men who smoke around their female partners put them at the risk of second hand smoke which causes trouble in having a baby. With over 2000 hazardous chemicals making up the tobacco of your cigarette and the resultant serious health concerns, if you still needed a better reason to quit, you have one!

Alcohol and Drug Abuse

 

Consumption of alcohol and addictive drugs causes disturbance in the hormones of men and women. It may sound obvious but there are some men and women who need to be reminded that they should stay away from alcohol and drugs such as marijuana to improve their fertility. Such substance also increase the risk of abortions and miscarriages.

 

Caffeine Addiction


The effect of caffeine on fertility is a little controversial. Some believe that it should be given up altogether for improving fertility while others say that it is ok if taken moderately. Those who really want to get pregnant as early as possible need to pay heed to the controversy and simply take the safer route of giving up caffeine. Continuing it can only harm and giving it up can reduce risks of miscarriage. Chocolate, coffee, tea and most of the soda drinks contain caffeine. Even decaffeinated tea and coffee have a small amount of caffeine.

 

Lack of Exercise


Sedentary lifestyle can also cause infertility. This is because your internal organs are not at their revitalised best to produce the right combination of hormones that help in fertility. Take up biking, walking, aerobics or swimming. Do one or more of these activities twice or thrice a week for 20 to 30 minutes.

 

Ageing


Women who are 35 or older are at a disadvantage when trying to conceive. This is because the no. of eggs that a woman has is said to be fixed for life. So, a woman in her 20’s is more likely to conceive than one who is 35 as her eggs have been depleted. Men also tend to lose their libido with age. To avoid problems in getting pregnant, couples at an advanced age should take better care of their health.
