Hrithik Roshan recently shared an emotional Instagram post talking about the health of his father, Rakesh Roshan. The veteran actor and director has been diagnosed with early-stage squamous cell carcinoma of the throat. In the post, Hrithik Roshan mentioned that despite the severity of the disease, Rakesh Roshan remained positive and fit by going to the gym.
What is Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Throat?
Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the tonsil or throat cancer is a part of the cancers of the head and the neck. Throat cancer is a malignant tumor of the throat, which occurs in many cases and in people who smoke. It affects a person’s voice, vocal town as well as the epiglottis (regulates the passage of air in the throat). It mostly affects people between the ages of 50 and 70.
Symptoms of Throat Cancer
Common signs and symptoms of throat cancer include:
- Weight loss
- Sore throat
- Change in voice or hoarseness
- Feeling of a lump in the throat
- Difficulty in swallowing and chewing
- Continuous cough
- Ear pain
- Swollen jaw
- Abnormal breathing sounds

- Swollen lymph nodes in the neck

Types of Throat Cancer
The two main types of throat cancer include:
Pharyngeal cancer: It starts in your pharynx. The other subtypes of cancer under pharyngeal cancer are hypopharyngeal cancer, nasopharyngeal cancer, and oropharyngeal cancer.
Laryngeal cancer: It is a tumor in the larynx and voice box. Larynx holds your vocal cords.
