Organic Sweets Vs Regular Sweets: A Healthy Twist This Festive Season

3rd Edition of HealthCare Heroes Awards 2023

Indian festivals mean delicious Indian sweets. Navratras without halwa, breaking karwachauth fast without Kaju Barfi or Diwali without laddoos will not feel the same. Sweets are considered to be auspicious and pious to almost all our celebrations because the elements of Indian sweets – sugar, milk, and ghee are considered to be ‘Sattvik’ or pure and fit for spiritual leaders and to be offered to the Gods.

However, a reverse trend has been noticed in recent years where health-conscious people are refraining from eating Indian mithai clad with sugar and ghee. The calorie content of these sweets is beyond the intake limit prescribed by diet doctors. Another reason behind a decreased trend in the consumption of sweets in India is the surge in cases of diabetes in India from 11.9 million in 1980 to 69.2 million cases currently.

How regular sweets affect your body?

If you are in a habit of eating sweets regularly, you might want to rethink it. Sweets not only cause severe dental problems, but this habit affects your overall health as well. The main culprit of this is sugar. Many global diet pieces of research have proved that the consumption of large amounts of sugar is poisonous for us, and does much worse than salt. However, a little amount of sugar is necessary for producing energy.

Sugar is also known to cause a few nutritional deficiencies. It is a fact that people who consume sugar in any form have the lowest intake of folate, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and iron. Some other harmful problems caused by excess intake of sugar include liver dysfunction, lower immunity, unnecessary weight gain, addiction to sugar, damages the heart, harms the brain among others.

Benefits of Consuming organic sugar-free sweets

There are various benefits to choosing organic sweets this festive season. Some of them are:

Refined sugar affects your nutrients, which your body needs for a strong metabolism. It processes the release of growth hormones when it raises insulin levels. Sugar causes inflammation, it is involved in conditions such as dermatitis, hyperactivity, indigestion, and depression. Sugar can affect your digestive system, weakening it, and not allowing nutrients to stay in your body properly. Organic sugar does not harm the organs in any way but helps in producing energy.

Manage and Maintain Your Weight

Our body only needs “good fats” such as omega-3 fatty acids which helps in improving brain performance and reduce inflammation, the more sugar you eat the more fats you consume.

Improve Your Energy and Feel Less Sluggish

Refined sugar is the major reason for feeling lazy for some people, as it increases the blood sugar level and people start feeling sleepy. When you start eating organic and sugar-free foods or sweets they tend to fill you up on antioxidants, vitamins, fiber, water, and proteins that fuel your body and mind.
