Love sipping on the healthy cups of herbal tea? Learn what you shouldn't do to get most out of your herbal tea.
What is the first thing that pops in your head when your body needs a healthy boost? A healthy cup of herbal tea, right? There is nothing better than a soothing cup of herbal tea. Apart from the soothing effects, it also provides some amazing health benefits. This caffeine-free tea comes with all sorts of healing powers that help in soothing a troubled mind and ease insomnia and lot more. However, most of us have been making herbal tea mistakes that don’t let us obtain the optimal health benefits from our favorite magical beverage. Here are some mistakes to avoid with herbal tea to get the most out of your herbal tea.
Adding sugar cubes to your cup
Adding sugar to your herbal tea does not make any sense because the main idea of having a cup of herbal tea is to nullify the effects of sugar on your body. If you like your tea little extra sweet, use honey as a substitute instead of pouring sugar in your tea. Drinking this combination of herbal tea and honey will also help you with weight loss. However, if you like this idea of adding honey in your herbal tea, know that it's advised that you add honey only once your tea cools down a bit as adding honey directly to hot food is not recommended.
Adding milk to herbal tea
Do you know tulsi is one of the most common ingredients that most of the herbal teas contain? So, if you have been adding milk to your herbal tea, you may want to stop doing it as tulsi and milk are not compatible with each other. Therefore, avoid adding milk to your herbal tea. Another reason why you should not add milk to your herbal tea is that milk is packed with nutrition that may lead to weight gain. So, if your goal is to reduce weight, drinking herbal tea containing milk will not serve the purpose of weight loss any longer.
Consuming it either too hot or too cold
Another common herbal tea mistakes that we make is to consume it either too hot or too cold. People whose body type is Kapha or Vata may drink it hot but those who have Pitta body type should consume it lukewarm.
Reheating the tea
Most people often reheat the same tea and drink it. Well, you should only consume fresh tea rather because as per Ayurvedic principles reheating your herbal tea will burn all the active ingredients of the herbs. And if that happens there is no point of drinking of herbal teas.
Drinking it all the time
Avoid drinking herbal tea, if your Pitta is very high, especially during summers.
Keeping the lid closed while preparing your herbal tea
As per Ayurveda, whenever you boil water, you should not cover the vessel with a lid to allow water to get evaporated a bit. When you prepare your tea in an open vessel you can stir it continuously while adding ingredients to the water, making your tea richer with nutrients.
