How Is The Second Pregnancy Different?

But, what about the mother preparing to go through the whole procedure again? No matter how special this moment is, the body may not be as healthy, supportive as it was in the first pregnancy for the many changes experienced after the firstborn. The symptoms may be different than what was experienced for the first time. In some cases, the bump becomes bigger sooner. Some experts claim that this is possible as the muscles have been stretched out once earlier, making it easier to happen the second time. Also, second pregnancy comes the experience of handling various situations in a much better manner. Some may experience to understand the baby kicking much earlier than what they did for the first time. And, the most important, the second pregnancy can be a tad bit more taxing as you will have a toddler taking a lot of your time, which was not the case in the first pregnancy.

And, in some cases, the labour also takes lesser time as it did in the first one. As per experts, the first stage labour lasts for around 8 hours, while the second time it becomes around 5 hours. And, the second stage for first time mums is three hours, as compared to under 2 hours for those giving birth the second time.

How To Prepare For the Second Pregnancy?

Manage your weight: It is advisable to have a healthy weight at least 6 months before conceiving as it helps in the proper management of weight during pregnancy. A healthy weight gain is necessary for healthy and normal delivery.

Eat Right: Stay away from artificial sweeteners, caffeine and fructose corn syrup during the pregnancy. Include complex carbohydrates and grains, beans, etc. Getting pregnant the second time means making your body strong enough to handle the nine months again. Hence, eat better, take meals timely and do not skip meals. Supplementing the diet with all necessary nutrients is essential.

Keep A Check on Medications: Consult your doctor to know what all medicines are necessary to be taken during pregnancy. It may be possible that the doctor may suggest making changes in existing medications too.
