Stomach cancer, or gastric cancer, tends to develop over a long period of time and does not have vigorous symptoms in the initial stages. Typical warning signs include bloating, feeling full quickly after eating, heartburn, and stomach pain. Many individuals, unfortunately, do not notice these signs until the stomach cancer is advanced, which makes treatment more difficult and the survival rate lower.

Stomach cancer, as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO), is among the world's most common causes of cancer mortality. There were more than 760,000 deaths caused by the disease in 2022 worldwide alone. The figures are particularly elevated in regions of Asia, such as South Korea and India.

Why Stomach Cancer is a Growing Concern

Dr Aravind Badiger, Technical Director at BDR Pharmaceuticals, provided some crucial insights on why stomach cancer is on the rise, particularly among young adults. He indicates that lifestyle and diet have big parts to play. "Consume a lot of processed or salty food, miss meals, and smoking can harm the stomach lining," he explains. One of the biggest risks, he continues, is Helicobacter pylori infection, a bacterial infection that is common and, if untreated, can cause ulcers and cancer.

The expert further points out that delayed diagnosis is one of the biggest problems. Most individuals take early signs, such as acidity or indigestion, with over-the-counter medication. Awareness is therefore critical for that reason.

To avoid the risk, Dr Badiger recommends a few easy preventive measures:

  • Consume fresh, whole foods such as fruits and vegetables.
  • Steer clear of highly processed and salt-laden foods.
  • Do not take persistent stomach pain lightly.
  • Use an H. pylori test if you have recurring gastric problems.

Conclusion

Kang Seo Ha's death has created a huge void in the hearts of her fans and also acted as a wake-up call. Stomach cancer is a silent killer, but an underserved disease. Being aware of the danger, being able to identify the symptoms in time, and adopting some lifestyle modifications can go a long way. Prevention is key because early detection could save a life.
