Celebrity hairstylist Jawed Habib highlights a common problem faced in India. He says, “In our North India, North East, there is a lot of sweat. And this sweat creates a kind of dandruff in our hair and skin. We call it Russi (dandruff). And this russi or dandruff is a kind of hair poison.”

He adds that dandruff leads to itching, which further causes hair to break. Unfortunately, many people avoid washing their hair often due to traditional beliefs. Habib calls this superstition dangerous. “People want to keep their hair long; they don’t want to wash it. The reason is itching that breaks our hair,” he explains. According to him, the only real solution is regular cleaning.

Wet Your Hair First

  • Oil doesn’t work well on dry hair. So always wet your hair before applying anything.

Apply Mustard Oil

  • Habib recommends mustard oil because it is easily available in India and naturally suits the climate.
  • “God has given mustard oil here after thinking about it,” he says.
  • Apply lightly, without massaging.

Leave for 5–10 Minutes

  • Let the oil settle for a short time. No need to leave it overnight.

Wash Daily

  • Wash your hair every day using shampoo, soap, or whichever cleanser you prefer.
  • Habib stresses that daily washing removes dandruff and sweat, keeping the scalp clean and itch-free.
  • According to him, “If you do it every day, your hair will never break. Because no one’s hair breaks before 50 years.”
