International Women's Day 2024: Expert Lists Down Top 10 Female Health Concerns


Femme – a mother, wife, sister, daughter, and a friend. A powerhouse who carries unique voices and has led many organisations, yet often overlooks her own health amidst the chaos. On this Women’s Day 2024, let us unite for the theme of the year – Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress. Progress encompasses health maintenance, better living, empowerment, and gender equality. In this era of globalisation, while various aspects of life have evolved, women's health remains paramount.

We asked our expert Prof Anamika Charan - Sharda School of Nursing Science and Research to list down a few health concerns centric to women. Here are the top female health concerns, broadly categorised into psychological and physiological issues:

Psychological Concerns

Women face a plethora of psychological challenges, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, mood swings, perinatal depression, low self-esteem, and feelings of loneliness due to modernisation. The fast-paced lifestyle and societal pressures contribute to these mental health issues, often going unnoticed or untreated.

Physiological Issues

1. Cervical Cancer

Among physiological concerns, cervical cancer tops the list. Regular screening and vaccination can significantly reduce its incidence.

2. Breast Cancer

Another prevalent ailment, early detection through self-examination and mammograms is crucial for effective treatment.

3. Heart Diseases
