Body Type & Their Health Risks

Apple Shaped Body

You have an apple-shaped body if you have curves but a less defined waist. It is also called round or circle body type. The fats get stored in the abdomen, thighs and hips and can cause lifestyle imbalances. People with this body shape are at a greater risk of developing heart disease, strokes, and diabetes due to the fats stored in the abdomen. The apple-shaped figure has been linked to excessive alcohol consumption, particularly in men.

Pear Shaped Body

A pear-shaped or triangle body type is a body type with broader hips than shoulders. The fats get stored in the leg and hip region in this body type. The chances of heart disease are generally lower compared to an apple-shaped body. In addition, pears contain fat in the lower part of the body and that puts additional pressure on the legs, causing knee and leg joint problems.

Hourglass Shaped Body

The hips and shoulders are balanced along with a defined waist in people with this body type. In this body type, the fat storage is not in one region of the body, so weight gain is not much evident. However, the chances of heart disease increase if you are overweight. You can also develop visceral fat if you carry extra weight around the waist, which can affect and damage the organs of your body. This can result in diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

Inverted Triangle Body Shape

An inverted triangle body type is a body type where your shoulders are broader than your hips. The chances of heart disease are lesser, but due to the larger bust and breast density, the chances of developing breast cancer rises. People with this body shape have a high metabolism and do not gain weight quickly. However, if you are overweight or obese, you may be more likely to have heart problems.
