3rd Edition of HealthCare Heroes Awards 2023

Obesity is one of the most prevalent health issues in the modern era. What makes it so serious is that it is frequently the root cause of serious health problems such as type 2 diabetes, strokes, cardiovascular issues, and so on. The modern age's comfortable and sedentary lifestyle, combined with an unbalanced fast food diet, hastens this problem.

However, when someone considers losing weight, they want to do so as quickly and easily as possible. Seeing immediate results can be highly motivating after all. Cutting calories and avoiding carbs are two common strategies a person indulges in, which is basically the combination of intermittent fasting (IF) with the keto diet. So, if you want to lose weight but aren't sure which diet to try, here's everything you need to know about IF combined with the keto diet.

What Is IF Plus Keto?

Intermittent fasting is a type of eating pattern that alternates between calorie restriction or fasting and normal food consumption over a set period of time. The 16/8 method, which involves eating for eight hours before fasting for 16, is perhaps the most popular type of intermittent fasting. On the other hand, the ketogenic (keto) diet is a high-fat, very low-carb diet. Carbs are typically limited to 20 to 50 grams per day, forcing your body to rely on fats rather than glucose as its primary energy source.

How Does It Work?

The combination of IF and the keto diet works by triggering your body's stubborn fat. Carbs are your body's primary energy source, and when you eliminate carbs, as in the keto diet, you draw energy from your body's stored fat and use it as glycogen. On the other hand, when you fast as you do during IF, you detox your body and boost your metabolism, which speeds up the weight loss process. Moreover, combining IF and the keto diet may help you lose body fat faster than the keto diet or IF alone. The only thing to remember is that when you eat, you should leave at least two hours between meals and consume them at roughly the same time every day.

Things You Should Know Before Combining IF And Keto Diet

  1. As you eliminate carbs from the diet, chances are that you might not be able to digest the food well.
  2. IF and keto are solely a weight loss diet; if muscle gain is your goal, avoid it.
  3. Fasting for long periods of time and not eating carbs may result in slower post-workout recovery and decreased strength.
  4. Your micronutrient level may suffer as a result of not eating enough calories during the day.
  5. Remember to drink plenty of water to keep your body's pH balanced.

Should You Follow It?

Combining IF and keto is a very advanced method of weight loss. So, if you've been dieting for a while or have reached a weight loss plateau, only then follow it. A beginner can lose weight by creating a 200-calorie deficit. Moreover, people with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease, should seek medical advice before attempting intermittent fasting on the keto diet.
