While it is natural to feel some ups and downs during this time, PPD is more than just the “baby blues.” Women with PPD may feel hopeless, overwhelmed, anxious, exhausted, sad, or angry. 1. Take care of yourself
Make sure to take care of yourself physically and emotionally. Eat healthy foods, get plenty of rest, practice breathing exercises, meditate, and exercise regularly. Doing these things will help keep your energy levels up and improve your mood.
2. Spend time with loved ones
Spending time with people who love and support you can be a big help when you’re struggling with postpartum depression. Whether it’s talking on the phone, going for coffee, or taking a walk together, quality time with loved ones can make a big difference.
3. Get plenty of rest
One of the best things you can do for yourself when suffering from postpartum depression is to get plenty of rest. This means both getting enough sleep at night and taking breaks during the day to rest when possible. It may be difficult to find time to sleep when you have a new-born, but it is important to make it a priority.
4. Eat a healthy diet
Eating a healthy diet is also important for those suffering from postpartum depression. Eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains will help to improve your mood and give you the energy you need to take care of your baby.
5. Join a support group
There are often local support groups available for women experiencing postpartum depression. These groups can provide valuable support and advice from other women who have been through it.
6. Get professional help
If you find that you are still struggling with postpartum depression after trying to get better on your own, it may be time to seek professional help. If you are feeling depressed, connect with a therapist or counsellor. They can provide you with the tools and support you need to manage depression.
