According to Dr Chhabra, hair consists of a protein mainly known as keratin. She further says that the following types of food in your daily meals can help strengthen your hair follicles and increase hair growth naturally:

  1. Spinach is an iron and vitamin powerhouse that enhances blood circulation to your scalp, thus making sure that hair follicles receive nutrients.
  2. Eggs are rich in high protein and biotin, which are used to build keratin and hair structure.
  3. Almonds, Walnuts and flaxseeds provide omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin E, which feed the scalp and keep it hydrated.
  4. Sweet Potatoes contain a great amount of beta-carotene, which is converted into vitamin A that helps our scalp remain healthy and our hair shiny.
  5. Avocados contain the good health fat and vitamin E that hydrate hair and make it resistant to damage.
  6. Greek yoghurt does not just contain a lot of protein but also includes B vitamins that enhance blood flow to the scalp and hair as well.
  7. Antioxidants and vitamin C that are found in berries aid in collagen production, a protein that strengthens hair shafts.
  8. Lean meats like chicken and turkey, which have proteins and iron, are required to repair and grow hair follicles.

Consumption of adequate amounts of protein-rich food is important since your body requires it to grow and repair hair strands. The expert also indicates that nutrients like iron, vitamin A, C, D, E, omega-3 fatty acids, and biotin are important nutrients that support hair health. She adds that without these in your diet, your hair follicles may be weakened, causing more hair loss.

Unhealthy eating may lead to split hair, stunted hair and even scalp problems. This is why a well-balanced diet with the appropriate amount of vitamins and minerals is important to healthy hair.
