Food items affect a person’s skin condition significantly. Certain food items show a positive effect on the skin making you look beautiful. Having healthy food makes your skin healthy.

A balanced diet is essential to maintain a healthy, beautiful and glowing skin. Some of the foods that you should include in your diet for a balanced diet are:

Avocado

Avocados are a good source of biotin. They provide a cure for brittle nails and hair. They prevent the skin from getting dry or chapped. Avocado powder is used to make homemade facial scrubs to treat dry skin. Avocados also contain vitamin E which is essential to maintain suppleness and elasticity of the skin.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain lycopene, a compound which prevents sunburn. Lycopene also acts as anti-oxidants that prevent premature aging and wrinkle formation. Tomatoes are rich in carotenoids which cause reduction in cellular damage, thereby preventing skin rashes. People who eat tomato paste and drink tomato juice regularly have been found to have 50 percent lesser skin reddening and burning than those who don’t.

Salmon

Salmon fishes are rich source of carotenoid and astaxanthin. These substances  enhance the elasticity of the skin. Salmon also contains omega-3 fatty acids DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) that protects the skin from the harmful effects of free radicals caused by UV rays. Salmon is highly beneficial for people suffering from various skin diseases and skin lesions.

Egg

Egg yolks contain a component called carotenoid lutein which protects the skin from UV damage. Like lycopene, lutein also protects the skin from the negative effects of free radicals. They are a good source of biotin, a vitamin that prevents skin dryness and chapping.

Nuts

Nuts such as walnuts and almonds are essential to keep skin soft and young. They are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids that make the skin shine and glow, and also makes it smoother and younger looking. Nuts also contain vitamin E which prevents skin aging due to sun damage. Vitamin E is essential to maintain the moisture content of the skin, which prevents skin dryness. They are also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids.

Green leafy vegetables

Green leafy vegetables such as spinach provide vitamin A to the skin. Vitamin A is essential for cell and tissue regeneration, which are important for making the skin healthy and glowing. They are also a good source of vitamin K, vitamin E, folate and carotenoids such as lutein and zeaxanthin. All these nutrients reduce skin dryness and prevent premature aging of the skin.

Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits such as lemons, grapes, grapefruits and oranges are rich in vitamin C. Vitamin C enhances the production of collagen essential for maintaining the elasticity and tightness of the skin. It prevents wrinkle formation and skin inflammation, thereby reducing the harmful effects of free radicals.

Food items play a vital role in maintaining a healthy and beautiful skin. A proper diet can do wonders for your skin’s texture, tone and smoothness.
