First Omicron Death Reported In UK, New Variant Could Be More Fatal Than It Seems


Omicron variant which till now had been said to be not as fatal as delta variant has claimed first death in UK. As many researchers and WHO said that Omicron variant of corona virus could be more transmissible, but the initial symptoms show that it may not cause many fatalities. Well this could get worse now because the first death has been reported by Prime Minister of UK, Boris Johnson. Britain is among one of the worst hit nations by the COVID-19 wave and this is proving to be nightmare for people living there.

UK Omicron COVID-19 Death

Earlier this week, WHO confirmed that the transmissibility rate could be higher than delta and it could even lapse the vaccine efficacy on people. With rising cases of corona virus and omicron, the variant of concern is on it again. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that at least one person has died because of infection from Omicron variant of COVID-19 virus. He also said that in order to prevent the country from getting affected, they have launched the vaccination programme for booster shot.

Vaccination for COVID-19

Previous week, Pfizer claimed that 3rd shot of corona virus vaccine of Pfizer vaccine could significantly reduce the effect of omicron. Hence as accounted measure, the government has increased the vaccination drive. Omicron happens to affect as much as 40% of cases in the British capital right now, which is a sign for danger.

Cases Of Omicron Variant In UK

UK is facing a tidal wave and transmission of Omicron variant is rising in the country which is becoming difficult for the government to handle. Emergency measures are being taken in order to give third dose to citizens of Britain to protect them from Omicron variant and risk of fatalities. National Health Services has kept deadline to be one month to vaccinate the people of country and big queues are being seen as a result in the national capital.
