Recently a new study has revealed that fish consumption is associated with reducing intestinal cancer. The study said that consuming fish three times a week reduces the risk of developing this type of cancer. The study, published in the journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, is titled 'Fish Consumption and N-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid are associated with reducing the risk of colorectal cancer in a large EU'. This study is done by researchers at Oxford University and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
As part of the study, researchers examined the diet habits of 476,160 people, in which these people disclosed that they often have certain types of special food. These questions helped the researchers to find out that the people involved in the study often used different types of fish including white, fatty, lean and oily fish.
Researchers found that intake of 359.1 grams of all types of fish reduces the risk of intestinal cancer by 12 percent. Besides, those who eat approximately 124 grams of fish every week, the risk of intestinal cancer decreases by 10 percent.
Researchers said that this benefit of fish is due to the n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids present in them. These fatty acids are extremely beneficial in fighting swelling and burning.
According to the researchers, they analyzed the diet habits of the participants in this massive study in which they found that sustained intake of fish, which is said to be eaten, is associated with reducing the risk of intestinal cancer. It is due to the n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids present in it. The level of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids present in the plasma is not associated with cancer risk but it can cause a difference in different parts of the colon.
