What is ADHD?
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a disorder which is related to attention and impulsive behavior problems. In ADHD, restlessness, and hyperactivity are common throughout the day. The symptoms of ADHD begin in childhood but can continue through adulthood. So, it is not just a childhood disorder.
Children in the age group of 4-17 diagnosed with ADHD is increasing rapidly from 7.8% in 2003 to 11.0% in 2011 and is constantly increasing till date.
ADHD affects a child in more than one way. Poor concentration, difficulty in socializing, less focus are few of its challenges. These symptoms and disease can be minimized with the help of proper attention and care. Little distraction is not a problem but impulsive behavior with constant activeness throughout the day can be a problem.
About the study
A new study revealed that physical exercise can help in improving ADHD condition. Exercising is good for everyone whether having a disease or not. But when it is about the children with ADHD who experience low energy, depression, anxiety and lack of motivation, physical exercise plays a pivotal role.
Exercise not only reduces stress but also enhances the mood in ADHD cases. This will help in reducing children’s dependence on medicines as medicine is generating various side effects on children after certain years.

Dr. Sudheesh Sundaran Pillai, sports medicine expert explains that regular physical workout can reduce the extremity of ADHD. It also helps in efficient logical mental functioning in children. This can also help in alleviating the disease in adulthood.
When children exercise, a chemical is released by neurons called Dopamine which acts as the neurotransmitter. Dopamine is related to motivation component and attention in the brain. Release of dopamine can work wonder for ADHD affected children.
The study is conducted on 32 ADHD affected children by University of Georgia researcher. It showed a positive result from the children who engaged in a physical workout. They are made to work out daily. It is found that exercise not only boosts energy and confidence but also improves their impulsive behavior.
The whole study approved exercise to be a way to improve mental and impulsive health.
Getting engaged with sports and games can boost a child memory as well as their physical health. This can have the best benefit when a child is suffering from ADHD.
A child struggling with ADHD can experience the positive effects of exercise. It will increase concentration and keep the brain in good shape.
