Sensitive skin is presumed to be a skin type that gets easily irritated and red but it has a lot more to it. People with sensitive skin commonly experience conditions such as itchy and red skin along with breakouts due to certain environmental factors. If you are troubled due to your sensitive skin then you can surely blame your genes for it. Sensitive skin can also be connected with allergic conditions like asthma, hormonal changes and might experience symptoms throughout their life. These people tend to lack the colour pigment melanin in their skin and have a weak protective skin barrier. Being a genetic condition, sensitive skin is not something that can be treated easily but can surely be managed by providing some extra care.
Some of the common symptoms that can be observed in people with sensitive skin are-

A term that sounds to be relatively new, sensitized skin can be understood as a skin condition that leads to irritation, redness, rashes and dryness. Sensitized skin is a condition that gets triggered due to various factors that can either be internal or external. These triggers can be in the form of
- Sun exposure
- Poor diet
- Reaction to medication or skincare products
- Harsh weather conditions
- Skin conditions
This skin condition is totally treatable and can be resolved through the means of various treatments.
Sensitive Vs Sensitized Skin
As by now we have understood what actually the terms sensitive and sensitized skin means, let us get ahead and learn about the difference between these two.

Dr. Geetika explains that “Sensitive skin means that your skin is NATURALLY sensitive because it’s a sensitive skin type—you were born with it and although it can be treated to help the symptoms, it can’t be changed.
- Sensitised skin means your skin is sensitive due to external factors like skin conditions, the sun, environment, pollution, wrong skincare products, diet, allergies, and more. It’s important to see your doctor to see whether or not your skin is sensitive or sensitised and treat it accordingly.”
- Sensitive skin is a skin type caused due to genetics and is rooted in your DNA whereas sensitized skin is a condition caused due to various internal and external factors.
- Sensitive skin can not be treated but can be managed in several ways whereas the condition of sensitized skin is totally treatable.
