Amid the surge in covid-19 cases all over the country and highly transmissible omicron variant, the central government decided to expand the vaccination drive drive. A few days ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that from January, 2022, India will begin the administration of first Covid-19 vaccine doses to teens from the ages of 15-18 years. The country will also administer precaution or booster doses for health care and frontline workers and people of 60+ years with certain health comorbidities.
The registrations for administration of Covid vaccine teenagers under the age bracket of 15-18 years began on January 1, 2022. More than 6.79 lakh children between 15-18 had already registered over the CoWIN platform before 9 pm Sunday to receive Covid vaccination that began today. These teens will be administered Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin in two doses with a time gap of 28 days. How to register and book slot on CoWIN portal?
For children falling in the age bracket of 15-18 years, here is a step by step guide to know about the registeration process and booking slots for Covid-19 vaccination on the CoWIN portal:
- STEP 1: Log in on the Co-WIN portal using this link - www.cowin.gov.in
- STEP 2: Then, click on the home page, and go on the Register/Sign In Yourself tab
- STEP 3: Enter your 10-digit mobile number in the empty tab to receive an OTP
- STEP 4: Enter the received OTP and click 'Verify'
- STEP 5: Once the OTP gets verified, a new tab will appear on its own, i.e the registration of vaccination web page
- STEP 6: On the new web page, fill all your personal details
- STEP 7: After filling all the personal details, click on the "REGISTER" button at the right bottom
- STEP 8: Once you have registered successfully, book the date and time slot
- STEP 9: Select a convenient vaccination center and click the 'Confirm' button after checking the details for final confirmation on the booking

Important things to know about online registeration
- All important information and reminders are sent on your registered 10 digit mobile number. Therefore, make sure the mobile number entered for registration should be active and functional
- Do not register using several mobile numbers or different photo ID proofs for the same person
- Upto 4 people can register themselves with the same mobile number
- The portal will display vaccination slots only for the Covid vaccines for which you are eligible. The availability of slots is displayed in the search (on district, Pincode, or map) tab based on the schedule created by the District Immunisation Officers (for Government Vaccination Centers) and private hospitals for their vaccination centers
- Make sure to carry the registered mobile phone and the important documents, including the appointment slip, the Photo ID proof or Student ID card used while registering when you visit the vaccination center, for verification to get vaccinated

According to the Union Health Ministry’s instructions, all the children aged 15 years and above will now be able to register on Co-WIN portal. So basically, all the people whose birth year is 2007 or before than that, are eligible to take the Covid-19 vaccination. If you are not able to register online, children can also walk in and choose onsite registration at the assigned vaccination centres from today, i.e Monday.
