Every individual can be affected by different types of allergens that could affect your health. Allergy in basically an immune response against a substance which usually is harmless. It consists of environmental allergens such as mold spores, or animal dander or some other allergies. Zinc has been taken up in many studies and have been linked to reduce the affect or allergy or even treat it in some conditions. We consulted General Physician Dr. Sumeet Nigam from Sahara Hospital, Lucknow to know about role and effect of zinc on different allergic conditions. He said that if there is sufficient amount of healing process that goes on in the body. Along with this, it also helps to improve your healing process and sense of smell or taste. Zinc can be beneficial in conditions that might cause drowsiness or dry membrane. People having these sorts of condition can try to implement zinc in their diet or as supplements in order to treat it as alternative remedies.  

According to different studies, it was found that zinc deficiency could increase the risk of asthma and different kind of allergies. The risk was much higher in case of people that had some kind of medical history involved with them.

Zinc and Asthma 

According to some Pediatric reports that were submitted in 2016 concluded that intake of zinc supplements provided additional benefits to the body. Standard treatment decreased the amount of treatment of asthma in children. Doctors suggest that inadequate amount of zinc in the diet could lead to allergies that could potentially worsen your symptoms.  

Impact of supplements do not play a major role, but it has been found that zinc supplements could actually improve condition of children and adults in a drastic manner.

Zinc and Atopic Dermatitis  

When talked about atopic dermatitis, doctor suggested that zinc levels were significantly lower in those people that had atopic dermatitis. Atopic Dermatitis is a skin condition that could actually cause rashes on the skin and can be very problematic if not treated. It is a kind of eczema that is more prominent in children. This condition might also be accompanied with asthma or hay fever. Since there is no cure of atopic dermatitis, zinc intake can prevent you from getting this condition. However more evidence in needed to support this fact.

How can you fulfill daily demands of zinc? 

The requirement of zinc totally depends on every individual, there is gender and age specification that should be known in order to treat dietary allowance of zinc. Men that are older than 14 years of age need around 11 milligrams of zinc per day. For women that are 19 years and older require around 8 milligrams per day.

Sources of Zinc 

Even though chicken and red meat can supply majority of zinc to their body, but there are high in carbohydrates and other facts that could harm your health. Here are some foods that could increase your zinc levels in the body. 

  • Chicken 
  • Dairy products like milk and yogurt 
  • Nuts such as cashews and almonds 
  • Some breakfast cereals 
  • Sea food that includes shellfish, lobster, crab or oyster 

If you are vegetarian then the availability of zinc in your diet could be particularly lower than rest of the people. You should consult your doctor once before taking any kind of zinc supplements. It might also help you with protein synthesis if you intake good levels of zinc in your diet.
