Dairy products such as milk, yoghurt, buttermilk and cheese are one of the significant sources of protein and fat. People use them according to their body. Where there is calcium in milk, there is carb and protein in cheese and vitamin C in buttermilk. But today we will talk only about curd or buttermilk. This is because summers have arrived, and now most people will get upset with their hair breakage and dandruff. Many people believe that washing hair with buttermilk makes their hair silky and shiny. But it is not like that at all. Any use of reverse buttermilk or curd can be harmful on the hair. We often tell you many home remedies related to hair, so today, OnlyMyHealth (while investigating the use of curd or buttermilk on hair), spoke to Dr Rachna Desai, an Ayurveda and Surgery (BAMS) expert.
How Can Buttermilk Cause Hair Fall?
According to Dr Rachna Desai, buttermilk or dahi is also seen as a protein. It is the milky liquid that gets separated from the curd in the process of making cheese. Whey protein helps build your muscles and increase strength. Therefore, it is mostly used by athletes or wrestlers. These people always include whey protein in their diet for body-building. But besides, girls often wash their hair with whey. They suggest that the sourness of the whey means that vitamin C will make their hair free of dandruff (while causing hair loss).
How does yoghurt trigger hair loss?
Dr Rachna suggests that whey protein contains artificial growth hormones such as DHEA and creatine, which not only promote the build-up of your muscles but also increase the number of testosterone hormones in the blood. Testosterone is converted into a chemical compound called DHT, which ultimately stops the growth of new hair. Dr Rachna explains that the use of whey causes some molecules of whey to accumulate on the pores of our scalp, which impedes the growth of follicles.
This increases hair loss and baldness. With the use of such proteins, over time, we can lose all our hair gradually due to the decrease in hair growth. Rachna states that a high level of testosterone means that more of its androgen is converted to DHT, which is one of the leading causes of hair loss. Along with this, Dr Rachna also explained how Ayurveda helps in preventing hair loss. She said that you could use these things to prevent hair fall.
- Bhringraj - Bhringraj helps prevent white hair and prevent baldness. You can apply herbal oil prepared from extracts of herbs, or apply a paste made from its leaves to the scalp.
- Amla - Amla has antioxidants and vitamins, which are essential to keep your hair always shiny, robust and healthy. Mix the crushed amla with yoghurt and rosemary, and apply it on your hair. Leave it on for two hours and then wash the hair. You can also make amla hair oil at home.
- Neem - Regular use of neem strengthens the hair roots and improves blood circulation in the head. Besides, neem is effectively an excellent remedy for dandruff problems. All you do is boil some neem leaves and let it cool down. After that, filter the solution and keep it aside.
- Reetha - Reetha is known for improving volume and hair texture. Just soak a handful of herbs in water and leave it overnight. Next day boil the solution and use it as a shampoo.
Hair loss is a significant problem and can be extremely annoying to the person undergoing it. You may have to change your dietary habits and lifestyle to balance hair loss or pattern. In this context, Ayurveda seems to be the most appropriate treatment option. Instead of going for medicinal supplements, hair serums or expensive hair treatments, consider using these natural Ayurvedic remedies at home.
