A couple of days ago, Luke spoke to his listeners as to how an excess of mucus can actually reduce the whole immunity of the body. He said, "When we produce too much of mucus, it holds on to bacteria, pathogens, germs and viruses, making the condition worse for us." He says this is the time when our natural defence mechanism for the human body is to have a runny nose for all the excess mucus to come out. He also said how we cough to get rid of the excess phlegm. Cough, sneeze and runny nose are a different set of mechanisms for the body to get rid of the excess mucus in lungs.

Some May Have More Mucus Than Normal: In some cases, there may be people having a lot more mucus than what they should generally carry and the best way to get rid of that is to firstly, break it down, says Luke. One of the ways is to do steam inhalation. Luke said, "When we do steam inhalation, the warm vapours help us unclog, and to make it easier for the mucus to flow out of the body."

Alternative Remedies For Mucus Breakdown: Fenugreek Seed Tea

One such remedy to get rid of mucus is to use fenugreek seeds or methi seeds, an ingredient, which is available at every household. For the same Luke explains a simple remedy to get rid of the mucus build-up:


  • Take a spoonful of fenugreek seeds
  • Boil it in water and sieve the mixture
  • Have one glass in the morning and one in the evening for better results
  • One can add black peppercorns to the water with fenugreek seeds.
  • Black peppercorns are high on anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidants and help relieve pain and break down phlegm and mucus
