People dealing with diabetes know the importance of dietary support and healthy lifestyle choices in managing their conditions. To aid the same, a new study published in the International Ayurvedic Medical Journal (IAMJ) has suggested that certain herbs that have anti-diabetic properties can help diabetics control their blood sugar levels within 14 days.
Diabetes Management
Talking to the team of OnlyMyHealth, Dr Arun Kumar C Singh, Director, Endocrinology and Diabetology, Metro Heart Institute, Faridabad, said “Diabetes is a major risk factor for heart disease, nerve damage, foot ulcers, kidney failure, blindness, and stroke.”
“These extreme consequences highlight the importance of proper and timely management,” he added.
The IAMJ study, conducted by a team of researchers from Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Patna found that a mixture of Daruharidra, Giloe, Vijaysar, Gudmar, Methi, and Majishtha, have anti-diabetic properties, which helps cut down the sugar level in the blood. This medicine was prepared by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, shared the study.
According to the study, these herbal preparations also have the potential to increase immunity and anti-oxidant levels.

Diabetes And Obesity
A prior study by All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi found that this herbal mixture is effective in reducing obesity as well.
Talking to the team of OnlyMyHealth, Dr L Sudarshan Reddy, Senior Consultant Physician, Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, explained that obesity can lead to diabetes. “Obesity causes excess fat to accumulate in adipose tissues, leading to inflammation and oxidative stress. This inflammation is key in the development of numerous problems like insulin resistance, which causes diabetes.”
In addition to the herbal mixture, Dr Reddy listed a few lifestyle changes that can help you combat obesity-related diabetes:
- Control your calories and have a nutrient-rich, balanced diet.
- Practice activities like walking, jogging, or swimming, daily.
- Seek expert help to overcome triggers like emotional eating, eating out of boredom, and stress eating.
