Sometimes most common health problem can cause serious problems. Every small dysfunction on any of the body function can result into a big health issue if symptoms keep rising. Stomach pain or abdominal pain is one amongst them. This is a health problem which is actually cause’s symptoms of many diseases; you may have observed that stomach pain is a common symptom in many health adversities. Majority of people also believe that abdominal pain is just usual stomach pain but it is much more than that. There are many types of stomach pain that occur in the human body, today we will learn about few of them and conditions associated with it.

It is a series of pain which is caused between chest and pelvic region. There is no fixed time for which that abdominal pain exist, it can go in 2 minutes or stay for 2 days as well. He says that abdominal pain is usually caused because of infections, inflammation, cramps and underlying health conditions. 


Abdominal pains are also of several types and seriousness of the pain can be determined to a extent by knowing about the type of stomach ache. Abdominal pain can cause cramps, achy, intermittent and sharp ache which lasts for a short while in most of the cases. Abdominal pain caused because of inflammation can hurt more tissues and organs in your body, such as-

  • Small and large intestine
  • Spleen
  • Gallbladder
  • Pancreas 
  • Liver
  • Kidney
  • Stomach 
  • Appendix

All these functions are affected because of inflammation of the tissues in the following body parts. Inflammation takes place because of viral infection, bacteria, and parasitic infection that may last longer than usual. 

What are the Causes of Abdominal Pain?

Abdominal pain can be caused because of many conditions as told by our medical expert. According to him most common cause of usual stomach pain is because of inflammation in the intestine. Other types of abdominal pain also occur because of these following problems-

  • Indigestion
  • Throat infection
  • Intestine problem or infection
  • Blood in the digestive tract
  • Diarrhoea 
  • Constipation

Another cause of abdominal pain in women can be because of menstruation. Women face abdominal pain in their menstrual period in form of cramps and pelvic pain. Menstrual pain in women differs widely according to every individual. 


Conditions Affecting Abdominal Pain

There are some other common health conditions and problems as well which get affected because of abdominal pain. They are- 

  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea
  • Vomiting
  • Stress
  • Gastroenteritis which is also called stomach flu in common terms
  • Acid reflux conditions due to which you get heartburn

These conditions lead to further from associated with different individuals. These problems are chronic abdominal pain, Gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, crohn’s disease, lactose intolerance which happens when lactose is not able to get digested. In rare conditions, these problems may also cause damage to certain organs and cause gallbladder stones and various other types of stones.

What are the Types of Abdominal Pain?

There are 2 types of abdominal pain under various pain forms are categorised. One of them is normal localised pain; this is basically usual pain which occurs most times because of inflammation and minor infections in the organs. It is often caused because of inflammation of minor lining of the stomach. 

The other type of pain which happens is like that of cramps and thus it is categorised as cramp-like pain. In this condition, the people are affected with constipation, bloating, diarrhoea and flatulence. In most of these conditions, pain comes and goes and it can be treated with minor medication. 


There is another type of abdominal pain which is called colicky pain. Dr. Sumeet says that this type of pain is more focussed towards more serious diseases and problems. Cockily pain is a symptom of problems such as gallstones, kidney stones and muscle spasm. Abdominal pain in this category can be problematic and thus needs expert guidance.

It is important to know the location of abdominal pain as well in order to get it out of the system. This is because abdomen is divided into upper, lower and left and right abdomen. Here are various risks you must be aware of while having stomach ache-

In Lower Abdomen-

How to Prevent Abdominal Pain?

There are a few things that people need to keep in mind while having abdominal pain. However it is important to understand that not all the pain can be prevented by using these techniques. Dr. Sumeet gives some tips on prevention of abdominal pain and steps that need to be taken if you have one. 

1. You need to eat healthy

Healthy diet is one of the best ways to avoid any type of inflammation in the body which includes abdominal pain as well. Diets that are rich in nutrients such as fibre, minerals and vitamins tend to decrease the chances of having stomach problems. This is because these types of nutrients are easy on the digestive system helping it to ease the function.

2. Drink adequate amount of water

Another important point to keep abdominal pain away is to drink adequate amount of water in order to improve digestion and reduce inflammation in the intestines. There are many other problems that are associated with stomach pain such as dehydration, cysts, heart attack and urinary tract infection which can be prevented by increasing the intake of water and fluids in the body.

3. Eat smaller meals

Do not try to have big meals those associated with increased risk of health problems. This means avoid having oily and fatty food in the diet. Also take food in small quantities so that it is easier for your digestive system to consume it. Smaller meals increase energy patterns in the system and are able to improve overall health as well.

4. Exercise regularly

Except from diet it is also important to consume those calories and put them to work at the right places. For that you need to do the right amount of exercises and follow workout routine in order to stay healthy and functions flowing. Exercises such as jogging, walking, yoga, sports activities can be beneficial in preventing problems that result in abdominal pain. Exercise burns down excess fat and reduces digestive and respiratory issues.
