But along with your actions, you must take responsibility for what you say in front of your children. Parents should be careful about their word choices. Comparison is one of the worst things that parents do often. Some parents compare their children with others to make them learn from them. But it does not work that way. Comparison affects the self-esteem of the child. It decreases their confidence and kids also start questioning their ability. Instead of comparing your child with others, you should give them suggestions. Try to teach them how they can improve themselves and make them believe in their own talents.
When you say this to your child, you are somewhere restricting your child's thinking capability. Try to answer their question in the best way possible. Make your answers informative so that it triggers curiosity in them. If your child asks an inappropriate question then try to answer in a different way rather than ignoring it. If you ignore their question then they will try to find the answers from other sources. So, never say no and try to be a good source to your kids.
Comparison is extremely bad for your kid. Comparing your child with their siblings is as bad as comparing them with other children. Comparison will not only make them feel neglected but will also lead to jealousy among siblings. When you compare your child with his or her sibling it makes them feel left out. It also develops a feeling of failure in them.
Kids hear no very often. A straight no can be very rude. Do not say no to everything. It does not mean that you have to agree with everything your kid says. If you want to say no say it in a different way that they do not feel bad. Try to make them understand every possibility that can happen in that particular situation. This will make them take decisions wisely as well as they will understand your concern about them.
Never say it directly to your kids that - you can't do this. This can shake your child's confidence. You are unintentionally underestimating your child. This will make your child feel that they are not capable of doing it.
Whenever you direct your children try to use polite words. Scold them only when required. Do not use such words that can demotivate them. Try to be positive to create a positive environment at your home.
