Brushing and flossing are the best ways to protect your teeth. You can protect your teeth by including certain food in your daily diet. Some foods that protect your teeth include:

 

Celery


Snacking handful of raw celery on daily basis is good for dental health. Experts are of view that, raw celery protects teeth in many ways. Chewing raw celery produces plenty of saliva that helps to neutralise (Streptococcus) bacteria that causes cavity. Being a natural abrasive food, celery massages the gums and cleans the teeth from in between.

 

Cheese


Studies done in the last decade show that cheese that is low in carbohydrate and high on calcium and phosphate, is good for teethe. Calcium and phosphate present in cheese are key building blocks for enamel. It maintains the pH level of mouth by making mouth less acidic.

 

Green tea


Catechins present in green tea kills the bacteria (that convert sugar into plaque) present in mouth. Green tea also helps to get rid of bacteria that cause bad breath. Bacteriocidal effects of green tea effects teeth only if you drink it without adding sugar.

 

Kiwis


Kiwis are rich source of vitamin C. It is evident from various studies that collagen network in gums break down due to lack of vitamin C. As a result the gums become tender, vulnerable to bacteria and periodontal disease.


Consume kiwi on daily basis for instance you can replace sugar from your morning oat meal and top it with sliced kiwi.

 

Parsley 


You chew parsley or mint after a pungent meal, you will maintain a fresh breath for a long time.

Parsley is rich in volatile substances called monoterpenes. It quickly flow through blood and reach lungs as a result your breath smells nice.

 

Shiitake Mushrooms


Lentinan, a kind of sugar found in shiitake mushrooms prevents mouth bacteria from creating plaque, according to Caries Research. You can take shiitake mushrooms with your regular soup or stir fry them. Shiitake mushrooms are available in fresh as well as dried form. If you are using the dried one then reconstitute them by soaking in hot water for 25 minutes.

 

Onions


Onions are power pack of antibacterial sulphur compound. Raw and fresh onions are one of the best foods to protect your teeth. You can have it in your sandwiches, salads or regular food. Since raw onions lead to bad breath, make sure to have some fresh parsley with it.
