We have learnt in past two years that corona virus can affect any one be it at any position. COVID-19 vaccine is the only measure that can prevent you from adversities and risk of severe infections. COVID vaccination drive has been very successful in India and majority of population has been vaccinated with atleast one dose of corona virus vaccine. Recently, Canada had approved world’s first plant based COVID-19 vaccine. This could be a big turn around and advancement in the corona virus study. Till now we have a Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Sputnik and Covaxin as major vaccines available.
World’s First Plant Based COVID Vaccine
There has been constant research going on in the immunization and treatment methods for corona virus. Vaccine is the only remedy for prevention against the deadly virus. Mitsubishi Chemical Holding Corp. And Philip Morris Internation has been able to get their first plant based vaccine approved in Canada. This has created a novel immunization to combat the virus that can be very beneficial in giving more healthy doses of vaccination. The vaccine has been named Covifenz and has been based in Quebec City.
Covifenz Plant Based Vaccine: Things to know
1. It is the first authorized COVID-19 vaccine that has been developed by Canadian based company. It uses plant based protein in order to build the vaccine.
2. Covifenz is authorised for two doses for effectiveness. Each dose contains 3.75mg per dose. It should be administered 21 days apart.
3. Vaccine has been proved to have 71% efficacy against symptomatic infection of corona virus. It has also been 100 percent effective against severe disease caused by COVID-19 infection. These are results of clinical trials.
4. It is suggested that is can be effective against different variants of COVID-19 including delta and gamma variants. It may also be able to neutralise Alpha, lamba and Mu variants.
5. Health Canada and Public Health Agency of Canada are going to monitor the distribution and safety of this vaccine. They can take actions if some malpractices are found.

Side-effects of Plant based Covid-19 vaccine
There is a possibility of having few side-effects of this plant based vaccine. There can be temporary usual side-effects that may last for few hours after the vaccination. Due to natural responses of the body, side effects may occur, these effects can include-
- Sore throat
- Cough
- Joint aches
- Headache
- Mild fever
- Muscle aches
- Nasal congestion
- Nausea
- Diarrhoea
- Fatigue and chills
According to Health Canada, the vaccine doses need to be given 21 days apart. Both the doses are likely to have similar efficacy and effectiveness. Each dose contains 3.75 mg of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. It also has 0.25 millimetres of AS03 adjuvant.
