It’s a bright April morning in India, and a small clinic in the neighbourhood is already filled with patients. Among them is a mother seeking relief from her child’s allergies and an elderly man looking for a solution to his joint pain. Both have come not for conventional medicine but for homoeopathy, a system of healing that has quietly become a cornerstone of healthcare in India. Today, on April 10, the world celebrates World Homeopathy Day, honouring Dr Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homoeopathy. In India, where homoeopathy is deeply rooted, this day holds special significance as it highlights the growing trust in this alternative medical system.
History of World Homeopathy Day![world homeopathy day 2 - 2025-04-10T122248.718]()
Dr Samuel Hahnemann, the German physician who founded homoeopathy was dissatisfied with the harsh medical practices of his time. Following the same, he developed homoeopathy. This means that substances causing symptoms in healthy individuals can be used in diluted forms to treat similar symptoms in sick patients. The World Homeopathy Day commemorates Dr Samuel Hahnemann, born on April 10, 1755, in Meissen, Germany.
Homeopathy was introduced to India in the early 19th century by European missionaries and quickly gained acceptance due to its gentle approach and effectiveness. The celebration of World Homeopathy Day began in India in 1997 and has since grown into a global event. The Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) actively promotes its use across the country. India, being one of the largest producers and consumers of homoeopathic medicines, plays a significant role in promoting this day through seminars, workshops, and public awareness campaigns.
