Rolfing, is a form of bodywork that aims to improve health by bringing segments of the body (e.g. pelvis, legs) into proper alignment. Rolfing believes that fascia the layer that covers muscle stiffens, shortens, and loses its elasticity due to prolonged poor posture, mental and emotional stress. A Rolfing practitioner uses his/her elbow, finger, and knuckle to stretch and open fascia so as to correct the misalignment in the head, shoulders, abdomen, pelvis, and legs. This is considered to open up breathing, improve digestion, balance the nervous system, and improve physical and emotional health of a person. Conditions that can be treated by Rolfing include;
- Poor posture.
- Muscle tension and pain, particularly of neck, upper back, and low back.
