What is Polyarthritis?

Poly means “many” and arthritis, well we all know what that is. So Polyarthritis is an inflammation or a swelling of multiple joints in the body. The term actually specifies five or more joints, since oligoarticular arthritis affects two, three or four joints. The condition is synonymous with auto-immune disease and it isn’t age or gender specific.

Polyarthritis does not define any particular form of arthritis, but is used only as a term to describe arthritis in a number of joints. There are many instances where it has been caused by immune disorders, such as rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis, or systemic lupus.

How do you know you have polyarthritis?

The symptoms of Polyarthritis are similar to those of arthritis, where you will suffer extreme pain and inflammation in your joints. Check for redness, restrained movement or unexplained swelling of the joints. If you see any of these symptoms, then it’s best to consult a doctor for an opinion. There isn’t a complete cure for polyarthritis, but it can be treated to a point where you should be able to live a normal life.
