A detoxification programme usually consists of a carefully planned diet and lifestyle adjustments that are intended to improve your body's detoxification mechanism. There are numerous detox diets on the market that include vitamins, minerals, antibiotics, laxatives, and teas, among other foods thought to have cleansing characteristics. Unfortunately, there is insufficient data to support the effectiveness of these diets for toxin clearance and weight loss. OnlyMyHealth editorial team spoke to Dr. Srikanth H.S, Senior. Naturopath, Jindal Naturecure Institute, to know about some tips to detoxify after a wedding.
Tips to detoxify after a wedding
Let's have a look at a few basic techniques that will help increase your body's natural detoxification process.
1. Avoid drinking
Over 90% of the alcohol you consume is processed in the liver. Alcohol intake harms the liver by allowing fat to accumulate, inflaming and damaging liver tissue. This prevents the liver from working at full capacity, limiting its ability to eliminate toxins from your body. Avoiding alcohol consumption is critical if you want your body's detoxification system to function properly.
2. Increase your sleep
Eight hours of sleep per night is required to boost your body's detoxification system. Sleep permits the brain to regenerate and remove potentially harmful substances. When you don't get enough sleep, your body doesn't have time to rid itself of toxins, which has a number of bad consequences. In research, lack of sleep has been associated with anxiety, stress, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and obesity. If you have difficulties falling asleep, stick to a strict routine and avoid blue light from computer screens and mobile gadgets for at least half an hour before bed.
3. Maintain hydration levels
Water regulates body temperature, lubricates joints, improves nutrient absorption and digestion, and detoxifies the body. To function effectively, the cells must repair themselves by converting the nutrients in meals into usable energy. Water aids in the removal of waste through urine and sweat. Make it a habit to drink at least three litres of water per day. This amount can fluctuate depending on your diet and the quantity of daily exercise. It is recommended to consult with your doctor to determine the exact requirements.
4. Adopt these dietary adjustments
Sulphur-rich foods such as onions, garlic, and broccoli assist to mitigate the negative effects of heavy metals. They also aid in the proper functioning of glutathione, a natural antioxidant that plays an important role in detoxification. Garnish your dishes liberally with cilantro, which aids in the elimination of insecticides and phthalate from the body. Gut health is essential for keeping the detoxification system running smoothly. To keep your gut healthy, eat more prebiotic foods like artichokes, tomatoes, asparagus, bananas, oats, onions, and garlic. They nourish the beneficial gut bacteria, allowing them to produce healthy fatty acids.
5. Reduce your intake of sugar and junk food
Excess sugar and junk food intake is the main cause of heart-related problems. Diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and cancer have all been related to it. All of these diseases interfere with your body's detoxification mechanism, causing injury to organs such as the kidneys and liver. Sugary drinks and junk food cause fatty liver, making detoxification more difficult. The simplest approach to determine if you are consuming excessive amounts of sugar or junk food is to have a blood test to check with triglyceride level. If it is greater than 150 mg/dl, it is time to stop eating junk food. Replace them with more nutritious options such as whole grains and fibre-rich fruits and vegetables.
If you are serious about attempting a detox regimen, you should first contact your doctor or a naturopath. Everyone has a varied BMI, daily routine, and metabolism rate, and all of these elements must be considered before making any dietary modifications.
