According to Priya Bansal, MSc Nutrition, formerly worked at Apollo Hospital, Delhi, and a Delhi-based dietician, "Watermelon is rich in vitamins A and C, providing 17% and 21% of the recommended daily intake, respectively." It also offers a good amount of potassium, antioxidants, and contains citrulline, a compound that supports heart health. 

Similarly, in one bowl of muskmelon (approximately 177 grams), you consume about 53 calories. Bansal said that muskmelon is a good source of vitamins A and C as well, providing 120% and 68% of the recommended daily intake, respectively. It also contains potassium and dietary fibre, aiding in digestion and promoting a feeling of fullness, she added.

Which One To Consume For Weight Loss

Both watermelon and muskmelon are excellent choices for weight loss due to their low calorie and high water content. Bansal highlighted that watermelon has a slightly lower calorie count per serving, making it a preferred option for those closely monitoring their calorie intake. Its hydrating properties and fibre content can help keep you full and satisfied, reducing the likelihood of overeating.

Yes, according to Bansal, you can eat watermelon and muskmelon together. Combining different fruits can provide a diversity of flavours and nutrients. "Watermelon and muskmelon's vibrant colours, juicy textures, and complementary flavours can make a refreshing and nutritious fruit salad or a delightful addition to smoothies," she explained.

Watermelon and muskmelon can be consumed at any time of the day. Bansal suggested eating them for breakfast because our bodies are depleted after a night's sleep and supplying them with nutrients first thing in the morning prepares them for the day's challenges.
