Texas native Alyssa Ogletree has made headlines with an extraordinary act of compassion, setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest donation of breast milk by an individual. With an impressive total of 2,645.58 litres, Ogletree’s donation has the potential to impact countless lives, offering vital nourishment for premature and ill infants who rely on donor milk to survive. She first broke the record in 2014 with a donation of 1,569.79 litres, and her latest contribution has surpassed that achievement, bringing her international recognition once again.
From Motherhood to a Lifesaving Mission
Ogletree’s journey began in 2010 when she discovered an unusual milk supply after the birth of her first son, Kyle, now 14. After discussing her surplus with a nurse, she learned about breast milk donation and its potential to aid families in need. Motivated by the opportunity to make a difference, she started donating through the Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas. Ogletree’s contributions have been monumental; by her calculations, her donations could have sustained over 350,000 premature babies, with each litre capable of nourishing approximately 11 infants.
A Rigorous Routine and Remarkable Dedication
Ogletree’s donation journey has been marked by an intense commitment. She maintained a strict pumping schedule, waking every three hours, even through the night, to ensure a steady supply. “I would pump for 15 to 30 minutes each time, freeze the milk, and store it until my freezer was full,” she explained. Once she reached capacity, Ogletree would deliver her frozen milk to the milk bank, where it would be weighed on a specially calibrated scale.

Without a medical condition to explain her high production, Ogletree credits her success to consistency, hydration, and a healthy lifestyle. “I drank lots of water, kept a balanced diet, and never strayed from my schedule,” she shared. Over the years, her dedication saw her through the births of her two younger sons, Kage and Kory, and even after serving as a surrogate mother, she continued to pump and donate.
Supporting Families in Need
For Ogletree, the decision to donate was rooted in her desire to give back. In an interview with Guinness World Records, she expressed how breast milk donation became her way of contributing to others, especially when financial donations were not feasible. “I have a big heart, but I also have my own family to care for. Donating milk allowed me to help others in a way that was sustainable for me,” she explained.
Beyond her contributions to the Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas, Ogletree has shared her milk with the organisation Tiny Treasures and has even provided milk directly to friends in need. The impact of her generosity goes far beyond her record-breaking donation, touching the lives of thousands of infants and their families.
Advocating for Breast Milk Donation
Ogletree is now passionate about raising awareness of breast milk donation. She believes there are other women, like herself, who may not realise their surplus could be used to help families struggling to feed their babies. Ogletree encourages potential donors to learn about milk banks and how even small donations can provide critical support to babies in neonatal intensive care units.
Through her record-setting contributions, Alyssa Ogletree has proven that one individual’s commitment can make a monumental difference. Her story is a testament to the power of generosity, inspiring others to consider the impact they, too, could have on those in need.
