While the festive season brings light and prosperity in life, it comes with a baggage of polluted air that not only harms your internal organs but also your skin. The polluted air and dust that arise during this season can set in early signs of ageing and leave your skin dull and dry. The late-night parties, heavy make-up and hectic schedule during this festival season can further exhaust your skin. With winters approaching, it is imperative to take better care of your skin if you want to prevent any permanent skin damage.
Tips to Rejuvenate and Repair Skin
We spoke to our expert Dr. Ishmeet Kaur, MBBS, MD Dermatology, Director & CO-Founder of Dermosphere Clinic who explained the importance of a skincare regimen. Here is what she shared with us.
1. Cleanse
During this time, avoid harsh cleansers and scrubbing face wash. Be gentle on your skin and preserve the natural protective layer with the help of a gentle skin cleanser and lukewarm water. Exfoliation can be reserved for weekends followed with a seal of moisturiser.
2. Antioxidant
Boost your skin repair with antioxidants, both internal and external. For dry/sensitive skin, use niacinamide serum, for normal/oily skin, use vitamin C serum. After all the late-night parties, its now time to enrich your diet with citrus fruits, avocados, nuts and green veggies to combat the free radical damage.

3. Moisturise
Gift your epidermis an extra layer protection with a good non-comedogenic moisturiser to protect it from environmental stressors.
4. Sunscreen
SPF of 50 and PA factor +++ with visible light protection should be applied every three hours to protect from harmful UV rays.
5. Face mask
A cooling face mask depending on your skin type, should be made use of once or twice a week. This will soothe your skin and repair the skin damage.

6. Hydration
Polluted air can leave your skin dehydrated. Drinking 4 litres of water is essential for overall skin health. Antioxidant rich smoothies containing beetroot, pomegranate, carrot, ginger can provide you with better skin defence.
7. Protection
To protect your skin from dust, polluted air and UV rays, it is wiser to use an additional physical barrier like scarf, face mask and sunglasses when you head out. Avoid outdoor activities during peak pollution time of the day.
8. Hydrafacials
Medical facials tailored to the specific skin type and skin concern can thoroughly pamper and repair the damaged skin and bring back the glow and hydration that your skin desires during this time of the year.
9. Consult a Dermat
If you experience itching, burning sensation, red rashes, then you may be facing an allergy from the dust or polluted air. This is the time to consult a dermatologist for proper treatment and not try out home remedies that can further irritate your skin.
