This move follows a year-old controversy surrounding Bournvita, which raised concerns over its elevated sugar content. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) took action after an investigation, prompted by a revealing video highlighting the drink's high sugar levels. The NCPCR deemed Bournvita's commercials as "misleading," particularly in their claims of various health benefits associated with consumption.

The absence of a clear definition for "health drinks" under regulatory frameworks suggests a need for reevaluation. It underscores the importance of accurate labeling and transparent marketing practices, especially concerning products targeting vulnerable demographics like children.
