Malaria & Dengue Day 2023: Fever Causes, Symptoms and Prevention Guide - Onlymyhealth

Did you know prepping your skin in the morning is just not enough to keep your skin healthy? It is equally important to follow a skincare routine at night as your skin goes through a lot while you are asleep. Some habits that you do can harm your skin and must be avoided if you want clear and glowing skin. There are several common mistakes that are worth attempting to fix, even if you can't get it perfect every time.

Skincare Mistakes To Avoid At Night

Not Removing Makeup

Are you too tired to remove your makeup after coming back from a late-night party? You need to stop doing this right away as it can be harmful to your skin. Keeping makeup overnight can cause blocked pores, breakouts and early ageing. In addition, your skin's oil, sweat and makeup can combine to form the ideal environment for bacteria to grow.

Remove your makeup before bed to prevent this. To guarantee that all traces of makeup are removed, use a gentle cleanser and makeup remover. For a quick and simple fix, you can also use micellar water or cleansing wipes.

Not Washing Your Face

Even if you haven’t applied makeup on your skin, do not skip washing your face. Your skin gathers debris, pollutants and germs during the day, which can clog your pores and result in outbreaks. Leaving your face unwashed at night might result in skin that looks lacklustre and worn out.

Wash your face with a mild cleanser before night to prevent this. To prevent drying out your skin, wash your face with warm water and pat your face dry with a fresh towel. For a thorough clean, you can also use a cleansing tool or a face brush.

Over-exfoliating Your Face

It is important to exfoliate your face but overdoing it can be harmful to your skin. Excessive exfoliation can dry out your skin, remove its natural oils, and even lead to breakouts. Depending on your skin type, strive for 2-3 times a week while exfoliating instead of every night.

Pick a gentle exfoliation that is suitable for your skin type, and be sure to carefully follow the directions. A less abrasive alternative to manual exfoliants is to try using a chemical exfoliator like glycolic acid or salicylic acid.

Not Moisturising Your Face

Moisturising is essential for maintaining healthy, hydrated skin, especially at night. Your skin works to restore itself while you sleep, and moisturisers aid in retaining moisture and facilitating this process. If you don't use moisturiser, your skin may feel tight, flaking, and dry.

Apply a moisturiser that is suitable for your skin type liberally before bed. Look for components that are known for moisturising and protecting the skin, such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and niacinamide.

Sleeping On Your Stomach

If you have a habit of sleeping on your stomach, you should refrain from doing so. It can cause wrinkles, acne, and puffiness. This is due to the possibility of your skin's delicate surface being harmed by the pillow's pressure and friction.

Try sleeping on your back or use a silk pillowcase to prevent this. Compared to other fabrics, silk is smoother and less abrasive.

Be selective while choosing your skincare products as the wrong products can cause irritation, dryness, and breakouts. If your skin does not improve even after following various measures, visit a dermatologist.
