After the play, he experienced pain in his lower rib cage and was rushed to the hospital once his vital signs dropped in the dressing room. The BCCI released a detailed update confirming that Iyer had sustained a laceration injury to his spleen due to an impact on his left lower rib cage during fielding. According to the press release, “Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib-cage region while fielding during the third ODI…” He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation right after developing discomfort.
