Hibu Soren, aged 81 years, died on August 4, 2025, at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi. His demise, as per hospital reports and official statements, was as a result of a long illness that was mainly due to a serious kidney disorder. About a month or two before his death, he had a stroke, which deteriorated his health.

The former CM was admitted to the hospital in late June 2025. He stayed on life support for about a month before his death. Reportedly, kidney disease was the main underlying condition, and the stroke complicated his health further.

Medical experts have been extending round-the-clock services to stabilise him, but his frail condition has made recovery a hard task. His son Hemant Soren, who is also the current Chief Minister of Jharkhand, has confirmed his death.

Health Complications Faced by the Former CM1 - 2025-08-04T112422.365

The health of Shibu Soren was not good at all throughout. Multiple surgeries performed on him in the course of medical treatment presented several serious issues that led to his demise:

  • Chronic kidney disease and it has to receive medical care on a continuing basis
  • Diabetes may result in various health problems
  • Previous cardiac issues, such as a bypass operation history
  • He had a stroke about six weeks before he passed away
  • The need to be put on a ventilator in the last few days

Managing all these complications together was quite challenging. Kidney disease especially can affect many parts of the body and weaken the immune system. Combined with diabetes and heart issues, the risk of serious infections and organ failure grows. The stroke added to the complexity as it affects the brain and other functions.

Shibu Soren had been receiving treatment at a major hospital in Delhi, known for handling complex cases. Despite the best efforts by his doctors and the support of his family, his health could not be restored.

Understanding the Impact of Chronic Illness

Shibu Soren’s case highlights how multiple chronic illnesses can impact not only the quality of life but also survival. Many people with kidney disease or diabetes face similar struggles. The combination of these conditions often requires careful management and sometimes hospitalisation.
