Coffee Grounds and Essential Oils for Body Polishing

coffee-grounds

  • Coffee Grounds: According to a 2013 study, it was found that the ingredients found in coffee can help in promoting skin health. Coffee grounds are good for exfoliation, which can help remove dead skin cells, and promote blood circulation, thereby making your skin smooth and glowing.
  • Essential Oils: Have you ever noticed body polishing oils found in the market are infused with essential oils? This is because these oils are packed with therapeutic benefits and help in nourishing and hydrating your skin.

Combining these two ingredients can help in exfoliating, moisturising, and refreshing your skin.

How To Make Body Polishing Mixture At Home

Ingredients Required

coffee-for-exfoliation

  • 1/2 cup of coffee grounds (used or fresh)
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil (or olive oil)
  • 1–2 teaspoons of your chosen essential oil
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar (optional)
  • A mixing bowl and spoon

Step-by-Step Guide to Body Polishing

  1. Start by cleansing your skin. Taking a warm shower will open up the pores on your skin. Lightly pat your skin dry with a towel, leaving it slightly damp for better absorption. This will help in exfoliating and moisturising ingredients to penetrate more effectively.
  2. Next, make the coffee scrub. Combine coffee grounds, coconut oil, and brown sugar (if using) in a bowl. Add the essential oil and mix thoroughly until you get a paste-like consistency. You can add more coconut oil if you find the mixture to be dry. If it’s too runny, sprinkle in more coffee grounds or sugar.
  3. Apply a small amount of the mixture to your skin and massage it in a circular motion.  Avoid applying too much pressure, especially on sensitive areas, to prevent irritation.
  4. Let the antioxidants and oils soak into your skin for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Wash off the scrub with warm water. Avoid using soap immediately after to let the nourishing oils remain on your skin.
  6. Pat your skin dry and apply a natural moisturiser like aloe vera gel or shea butter to lock in hydration.
