A Life-Saving Vacation

Unsettling Symptoms

Dr Rahul Verma, Head of Neonatology and General Paediatrics, Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai, shares his story of self-diagnosis and survival. While on vacation in Chandigarh and Shimla last year, Dr Verma experienced mild chest pain and discomfort, initially attributing it to the cold weather.

Taking Action

Suspecting angina, Dr Verma called a cardiologist friend who advised an ECG and aspirin. “In an unfamiliar place, I improvised by purchasing an iWatch with an ECG feature. The results were abnormal, and despite temporary relief from Sorbitrate, my condition worsened,” he said. Dr Verma sought medical help upon returning to Mumbai, where the angiography revealed a critical blockage in his left main coronary artery, which was treated with angioplasty.

Dr Verma’s experience highlights the importance of timely medical intervention and self-awareness. "My quick thinking and colleagues’ support ensured my recovery, he reflects, allowing him to continue his work in neonatology and paediatrics."

“Everyone was trying to guess what could have happened in Shimla, speculating about how I might have had a major heart attack, and so on. I am happy to say that later on, my Shimla photographs turned out as good as my heart, and there was no need for my garlanded portrait,” added Dr Verma.

Dr Patil crafted a comprehensive health program to address weight loss, hormone fluctuations, and nutrient deficiencies."It was essential to create a balanced plan tackling all these issues simultaneously," she explains. Her approach led to a 10 kg weight loss and significant health improvements for the client. "Seeing the client’s progress was incredibly rewarding," she added.

Initially focused on physiotherapy, Dr Batra recognised that many ailments also require dietary solutions. "Chronic conditions like obesity and diabetes often stem from poor dietary habits," she said. This led her to study nutrition to offer comprehensive care. "To truly help my patients, I needed to address their nutritional needs as well,” added Dr Batra.
