Move over botox, fight off wrinkles with face yoga

Most of us don’t think twice before drilling holes in our wallet when it comes to keeping our bodies in shape and minds healthy. But we often overlook our face until we notice a wrinkle in sight.

Although wrinkles and fine lines are a part of aging, by taking care of your skin you can prevent premature wrinkles or at least reduce them. If you think succumbing to plastic surgery or using expensive beauty products and undergoing treatments are the only few ways to keep wrinkles at bay, you need to wake up. Face yoga is just the thing you need, not to mention it will cost you nothing.

Being hailed as the beauty trend of the moment, face yoga not only reduces wrinkles, firms jawlines but also creates a healthy glow as well as eases headaches and eye strain.

How it works

Face yoga or facial poses work the facial muscles and help tighten them. The movements also help relax the overused muscles such as the muscles around the eyebrows, jaw, and mouth. This also encourages the production of collagen, the protein that keeps skin elastic, giving you a smoother and more supple skin.

Puff up your cheeks

To practice this pose, you’ll have to puff out both of your cheeks and shift the air in your mouth from one cheek to the other, do this at least 5 times. Then release air while making a small “O”. Repeat the exercise 5 times to keep your cheeks firm.

Stick your tongue out

Stick your tongue out as far as it will go, and hold this for a while. Repeat 5 times.

Look up at the ceiling

Look up and open your mouth. Hold for 5 seconds, and repeat 5 times.  This pose will tone your double chin and strengthen the muscles in your neck.  Return to a neutral position to continue the exercise every time.

Smooth the forehead

Place both hands on the forehead facing inwards and spread all of the fingers out on your forehead. Gently sweep the fingers outwards across the forehead to tighten the skin.  Relax and repeat 5 times. You can alternatively also do the same by curling your hands into a fist.
