Jessie J is a famous British singer with hit songs such as Price Tag, Bang Bang. In 2025, she dared to tell her story of survival after breast cancer at an early stage. At the time Jessie J had surgery to remove the cancer, she had started on her way towards recovery. However, six weeks later, she was unexpectedly hospitalised once more by an infection. This new health news had left many of her fans worried and made them realise how cancer recovery are hard to predict.
Why Is Jessie J Hospitalised Again?
Jessie J wrote on Instagram about how she suddenly got an illness, which happened a few weeks after her surgery on her breast. She explained that she spent time in the same hospital ward where she had recovered before. She uploaded a picture of a cannula in her arm and described what happened during the past 24 hours in the hospital.
She explained, “I had and still have symptoms that pointed towards a blood clot on the lung. IT IS NOT A BLOOD CLOT, THANK GOD. But they ran a lot of tests, which ended up showing I have an infection (still trying to figure out what) and a little fluid on my lungs.”
Despite leaving the hospital, Jessie J admitted she is still struggling with breathing difficulties but preferred to continue her treatment as an outpatient because she hates being in hospital. She wrote honestly about the physical and mental challenges she has faced, saying, “I know many people who will have gone through this or similar may or may not agree with me on this or not, and that's OK. But I know for me, the true hard journey of this whole thing physically was the day I went into surgery.” Jessie J’s openness in sharing the highs and lows of her health journey has drawn support from fans worldwide.

Jessie J Breast Cancer Surgery and Diagnosis
In 2025, Jessie J wrote she was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer at the age of 37. She had to go through a mastectomy, in which one of her breasts was removed to remove the cancer and had to undergo surgery on the breast to get a similar appearance.
According to Dr Nanda Rajneesh, General Laparoscopic Surgeon at Apollo Spectra Hospital, Koramangala, Bangalore, mastectomy has been proven to reduce the risk of cancer recurrence by between 1 to 3 per cent. Some symptoms of breast cancer that occur early include feeling or developing a lump or swelling in the breast, changes in the size/shapes of the breast, pain in one particular part of the breast, redness in the part, flaky skin in the breast, irritation or dimpling of the skin on the breast and a discharge that comes out of the nipple.
The case of Jessie J is illustrative of the fact that awareness about breast cancer should be created at an early age so as to alert and know the symptoms of breast cancer or suspected symptoms like lumps and swelling, or changes in breast appearance. Having the courage to tell her story can encourage others struggling with the same problems, and it helps increase awareness of the problem.
