When these symptoms are related to a deficiency of Vitamin B, supplementation may be helpful for reducing discomfort. Vitamin B12 deficiency is common among older patients or those who have taken medications for long periods that supplementation is often warranted.

Should Every Arthritis Patient Take Vitamin B?
Dr Rathi emphasised, "Taking vitamins without testing is as wrong as taking medicine without a diagnosis. It is not necessary that every arthritis patient needs Vitamin B."
If a patient has no deficiency of Vitamin B, there is no scientific proof that supplements alone can reduce joint pain or inflammation. Instead, supplementation without cause may result in side effects like stomach upset and nausea.
When is Vitamin B Helpful?
Vitamin B supplementation may provide supportive relief in specific situations, including:
- Arthritis with neuropathic pain
- Diabetic patients with neuropathy
- Diagnosed Vitamin B12 deficiency in elderly patients

"In such patients, Vitamin B acts ancillary and supportive rather than the primary treatment," Dr. Rathi explained.
What Is the Correct Treatment for Arthritis?
According to experts, arthritis needs a holistic and personalised approach. It is not advisable to depend on only vitamins for the same. Some effective ways of managing include:
- Anti-inflammatory, balanced diet
- Weight management to decrease stress on the joints
- Regular exercises and physiotherapy
- Physician-prescribed medicines and supplements on the basis of medical tests
