How to use apple cider vinegar for sunburn treatment

Sunburn is one of the most irritating skin complaints often causing unprecedented damage to your skin, especially during summer. You can get sunburns from sea bathing, swimming or having frequent or prolonged exposure to sun. Therefore, instead of going for expensive options, try apple cider vinegar to get rid of the discomfort caused by sunburn.

How does sunburn happen?
When you are exposed to the sun, your body steps up the production of melanin to protect skin from the damages caused by ultraviolet radiation. Melanin is a pigment responsible for the colour of your skin, hair and eyes. At a certain point, however, your body can’t produce melanin quickly enough, resulting in damage to the genetic material in your skin.
In response to it, healthy cells promote inflammation to get rid of damaged skin cells, which is known as the UV stress response. On the other hand, the body produces new replacement cells. When both these processes are not supporting each other, there can be a risk of skin cancer. Getting a skin burn depends on your skin tone as well as the time of the day. If you have a fair complexion, you can get sunburn from just 15 minutes of sun exposure to midday sunshine. After prolonged exposure to the sun, blood vessels in your skin begin to dilate, causing redness on the skin. You may not see the symptoms of sunburn on the same day. Sunburns usually show symptoms after around 24 hours of sun exposure and may heal within three to five days.
Use apple cider vinegar for sunburn
Apple cider vinegar can help you reduce risk of sunburn as well as reduce damage caused by it. Here is how you can do the magic yourself.
- Take some vinegar in a spray bottle and add water to it. Now spray this solution on the affected area.
- Dip a washcloth in vinegar, wring it out and pat it gently on the sunburn.
- Take cool bath with diluted apple cider vinegar solution. You will soon notice that the damage from sunburn is reducing.
So, instead of always opting for chemical-based solutions to sun burns, use this natural home remedy. However, be advised to keep exposure to the sun at minimum and always wear a suitable sunscreen lotion.
