On an average, human beings expel gas at least 14 times a day. What if you flatulate more often? Home remedies for gas are highly effective in dealing with the condition.

Some of the best home remedies for indigestion problems such as gas, flatulence and bloating are as follows



Fresh garlic works great for those with regular indigestion problems, especially gas. The heating qualities of garlic stimulate gastric fire.



Neem contains several carminative chemicals that provide relief from indigestion. However, neem oil should never be used by pregnant or nursing women and children.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa)

Turmeric is rich in polyphenols, polysaccharides and sterols which relieve digestive and inflammatory medical conditions. It stimulates the liver to function better and regulates bile flow, thereby improving digestion.



Ginger works great in helping one get rid of gas. You may either eat it raw or add a few pieces into boiling tea kettle. You may also sprinkle small amount of ginger in your food to prevent gas. A teaspoon of fresh grated ginger before your meal will keep gas problems at bay.



Fenugreek seeds are rich in mucilage, a substance responsible for  formation of a protective coating on mucus membranes and improving digestion. It not only relieves gas and heartburn, but also strengthens the digestion process. Don’t consume fenugreek if you are allergic, are pregnant or taking anticoagulant drugs.

Caraway seeds

Addition of caraway seeds in delicacies stimulates and ascertains proper digestion owing to its carminative properties, providing relief from gas, cramping and other indigestion problems.


Dandelion tea

A better known weed, dandelion has diuretic properties to help relieve gas when taken with tea or as an additive in meals.


Activated charcoal

The intense absorption capacity of charcoal makes it an effective agent in relieving/preventing gas and bloating. A charcoal supplement before eating meals sucks up excess air in the digestive tract.


You must also avoid foods that aggravate gas and indigestion or are related to its cause in any way. Those with indigestion problems must abstain from fried and processed foods. Stay away from foods that cause gas, such as wheat products, milk and high-fat foods. Watch out for foods such as beans, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, onions, apples, corn, oats, potatoes, pears, prunes and peaches. Figure out your sensitivity to foods that are causing gas. Be observant and proscribe those foods from your diet for a while.
