As of late May 2025, Haryana is observing a small resurgence of COVID-19 cases, with Gurugram and Faridabad as focal points. Although the numbers remain low, health authorities are taking proactive measures to monitor the situation and prevent it from escalating further. This local surge reflects a wider regional trend, where countries, such as Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong are seeing significant spikes in infections, driven by emerging variants like NB.1.8.1 and LF.7.

Current COVID-19 Scenario in Haryana

On May 26, 2025, Haryana recorded five fresh cases of COVID-19, bringing the active caseload to 14. The hotpots are Gurugram with six active cases and Faridabad with five active cases.

The new cases in Gurugram include persons with mild symptoms and recent travel history. According to Dr Alka Singh, Gurugram's Chief Medical Officer, these people are under home quarantine and are recovering uneventfully.

Focus on Gurugram and Faridabad

Gurugram has logged two new COVID-19 cases, bringing its active tally to six. The patients, a 62-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman had returned from Mumbai and are currently under home isolation with mild symptoms. 

One new case was reported from Faridabad, a 28-year-old security personnel who tested positive at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital. The individual has been placed under home quarantine and is being monitored by the health authorities.

Testing and Surveillance Measures

In the wake of the surge in cases, Haryana's health department intensified testing and surveillance. District health officials have been directed to closely monitor Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) cases. Adequate samples are being referred for testing as per updated guidelines. 

The state has also issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for COVID-19 testing, including Rapid Antigen Detection Test Kit. The SOPs are meant to simplify testing procedures and facilitate the timely detection of cases.

PGIMS Rohtak director Dr Suresh Kumar Singhal said that the COVID-19 RT-PCR tests with 100% sensitivity and specificity are working smoothly in the viral laboratory under the microbiology department. He pointed out that the tests are being carried out around the clock, with prime concern for the safety and well-being of the public.

Preparedness and Public Advisory

Haryana Health Minister, Arti Singh Rao, has assured the people that the health department is keeping the situation under close observation. She stressed adhering to COVID-19-appropriate behaviour, such as wearing face masks, observing social distancing, and hand hygiene.

Gurugram and Faridabad hospitals have been put on standby to deal with any expected spike. Isolation wards and essential medical facilities are being checked for preparedness. Ten beds have been kept aside in Gurugram's Sector 10 Civil Hospital, but none have been admitted till now.

While the situation at present does not call for panic, residents are reminded to stay on their guard.
