The new trend catching the fancy of women in the Capital is going to the gym for a fit and fine body. A group of girls from south Delhi have recently started a gym. One of them says, "For sportswomen, gym is not only a must but is also very important for fitness of every girl. Till a few years back only boys used to go gymming but the mindsets have now changed." "At this gym around 100 girls train regularly. I lost 5 kgs weight within three months," says the mother of a child.
Female fitness and bodybuilding is the new mantra because many women now take part in beauty contests and want to look fit and glamorous. It makes one feel good about one's body.Gym-goers become conscious about eating right and exercising. Losing weight is not only beneficial to your health but also self-esteem. "Nowadays gyms are playing an important role in fitness. Previously, I was unfit and heavy. Within five months of joining the gym I have lost three kgs. I have become diet-conscious also. Early morning I take two eggs and two glasses of water before starting exercise. I had been exercising daily but couldn't lose weight and finally decided to join the gym," says Namita who attends a gym at Malviya Nagar.
"The gym culture has grown rapidly in the last six months. The number of members, especially between 18 to 35 age group, has increased," says Kalbir Singh from Fitness First. He adds that it is important for gym-goers to be conscious of their eating habits. Red meat should be avoided. Papaya, banana are good and having as much water as possible in a day helps a lot. "One year back I joined Fitness First gym at Gurgaon. Earlier, I was a little heavy but after attending the gym I have lost 10 kgs. I have appointed an individual instructor for different exercises. After 7 pm, I do not take any food and avoid salt," says 37 year-old Sonia Dhingra who commutes from Rajouri Garden to Gurgaon everyday.
