Gal Gadot Shares Experience of Having A Massive Brain Clot Before Her 4th Baby: Felt, “Is The Baby Going To Be Okay”

Among the recent series of health crises in the entertainment industry, Gal Gadot also opened up about her sufferings. She shared that while she was eight months pregnant with her fourth child, she had to undergo emergency brain surgery after being diagnosed with a massive cerebral blood clot. At an event in Beverly Hills recently, the Wonder Woman star shared how timely medical intervention saved not just her life but her baby's, too.

According to Gal, the ordeal started last year, when she was deep into her pregnancy and trying to juggle the demands of work, family, and personal commitments. In the middle of her hectic schedule, she began to have a severe headache, one which she said had “made the world stop”.

"Last year, my life took an unexpected turn. I was eight months pregnant, juggling family, work and everything in-between when I started to feel the kind of headache that makes you stop everything for weeks,” she revealed to her audience on the stage.

After trying to push through initially, Gal’s mother encouraged her to get checked. Eventually, she underwent an MRI on February 5, 2024. The scan results came back immediately, and the call from her doctor was urgent.

"Before we even reached home, my doctor called and said, 'You need to come to the hospital right now. It's serious. You have a massive brain clot,'" she recalled. The diagnosis was Cerebral Venous Thrombosis, or CVT, a rare but dangerous condition in which there is a clot in the brain's venous system. Pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester, increases the risk for CVT because of increased clotting tendencies.

The speed at which things were happening made the actor both frightened and overwhelmed. “From that moment, I just couldn’t process anything. English was out the window. My husband was talking to different doctors, and all I could think was, Am I going to die? Is this how it feels before you die? Will they save me? Is the baby going to be okay?”

Doctors at Cedars-Sinai performed an emergency delivery within three hours of the diagnosis and safely brought her daughter, Ori, into the world. Then, Gal’s medical team prepared for the next critical step.

“The next morning, while my husband held our tiny newborn, my doctors performed the procedure that saved my life. I realised I had been given two gifts, one in my arms, Ori, and one in my heart, a second chance,” she says.

Her story has since brought fresh attention to cerebral venous thrombosis and the importance of recognising warning signs, most especially for expectant mothers. According to medical experts, sudden and severe headaches, visual disturbances, seizures, or neurological changes in pregnant women should never be brushed off.

Gal Gadot’s experience is a important reminder that even the healthiest pregnancies may have unforeseen complications, and that urgent medical care can make all the difference.
