During pregnancy eating a balanced diet is important for the health of both the mother and the developing baby. While most fruits are safe, there are a handful that pregnant women should take in moderation or avoid the dangerous side effects. Here are a few fruits to avoid during pregnancy.
Papaya
“While ripe papaya in moderate amounts is generally considered safe, unripe or semi-ripe papaya contains latex, which could trigger contractions and lead to early labour,” said Swathi, Dietician, Manipal Hospital, Vijayawada, adding, adding, It's advisable to consult with a doctor before including papaya in your diet during pregnancy.
Pineapple
According to Dr Swathi, Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain, which, in large amounts, may soften the cervix and lead to contractions.

Grapes
Grapes, especially in their whole form, can pose a choking hazard. Additionally, some healthcare providers suggest avoiding excessive grape consumption due to the potential risk of pesticide residue. Washing grapes thoroughly and opting for organic varieties may mitigate these concerns.
Watermelon
Jouranal of Nutrition and Metabolism says that women with preexisting diabetes or who acquire high blood sugar levels during pregnancy, which is known as gestational diabetes may wish to avoid eating large servings of watermelon.
Due to its high water content, consuming it in large quantities may lead to an increased need to urinate, potentially causing discomfort, especially during the night.
Canned Fruit in Syrup
Canned fruits in heavy syrup often contain added sugars and preservatives. Opt for fresh or frozen fruits without added sugars to ensure a healthier option during pregnancy.
Passion Fruit
While passion fruit is rich in vitamins and antioxidants, it has a high acidity level. Some women may find that acidic fruits cause heartburn or gastric discomfort during pregnancy. If this is the case, it may be best to consume passion fruit in moderation.

Jackfruit
Jackfruit is a unique tropical fruit with a texture similar to meat. Dr Vijay Laxmi, Gynaecologist at Star maternity Hospital says that we should not eat overcooked jackfruit as it can increase the overall temperature of the body which can cause harm to foetus.
