Make Your Skin Look Younger With These Ayurvedic Tips From Expert

From expensive skin care creams and products to regular salon visits, your skin gives you a hard time as you enter your late 30s. The desire to look young and having a glowing spotless, wrinkle free skin makes you spend a good deal of money and gives you temporary results. In addition to enormous anti-ageing skin care products available in the market, various anti-ageing treatments like botox and dermal fillers are prominent to fulfil the quest of looking young.

Mindful eating, nourishing skin from within and practising exercises and yoga are essential for making your skin look youthful and wrinkle free. To understand how one can naturally look youthful without using harmful chemical-laden skincare products, OnlyMyHealth interacted with Avneet Bhatia, CEO and Founder, NatureFit, Navi Mumbai.

1. Nourish Your Skin From Within

Application of products or even natural ubtans on skin may provide temporary glow but nourishing your skin from within makes it healthier and younger looking. According to Bhatia, it is essential to consume a diet rich in antioxidant-rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds to combat free radical damage and support skin health. She said, “Incorporate Ayurvedic superfoods like turmeric, amla, and neem into your meals to rejuvenate and protect the skin from signs of ageing.” Fruits like oranges, gooseberry (amla), watermelon, and papaya contain vitamin C which helps in fighting wrinkles, as per a study by Harvard.

2. Follow a Dosha-specific Diet

Bhatia advises to customise your diet according to your ayurvedic constitution, dosha, to promote balance and vitality. There are three types of doshas namely Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. There are multiple apps that help you find your skin type and dosha. Citing examples, Bhatia said, “Vata types may benefit from warm, nourishing foods like cooked grains and root vegetables, while Pitta types may thrive on cooling, hydrating foods like cucumber and coconut.”

3. Practise Pranayama and Meditation

Meditation

Pranayam detoxifies the nadis (energy channels in our body), which usually get clogged with impurities. These purified channels help in improving complexion. Bhatia advised, “Incorporate pranayama (breathwork) and meditation into your daily routine to reduce stress and promote emotional well-being. Stress is a major contributor to premature ageing, and these practices help to calm the mind, balance the nervous system, and rejuvenate the body.”

4. Stay Hydrated With Herbal Infusions

Bhatia advised on hydrating your skin with Ayurvedic and herbal infusions such as rose water, licorice tea, and chamomile tea. “These hydrating beverages not only quench your thirst but also offer medicinal benefits, promoting detoxification, reducing inflammation, and enhancing skin radiance,” she said.

5. Mindful Eating With Spices

“Enhance the flavour and health benefits of your meals by incorporating Ayurvedic spices like turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon,” Bhatia said, adding,  “These spices not only add delicious flavour but also possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, supporting healthy ageing from the inside out.” The antioxidants in ginger help in combating free radicals from cell damage and give you a glowing complexion. Studies have shown that turmeric can help brighten the skin and give you a clearer tone. Adding cinnamon to your diet can help you smoothen your skin and remove dead cells.
